Table Mountain at sunrise – 30 July 2013

Aug 2, 2013

Watching the sunrise from the summit of Table Mountain requires a very early rise and a 2.5 hour hike, up Platteklip Gorge and across the table top to Maclear’s Beacon, highest point on Table Mountain. It’s an unforgettable experience that will stay with you for the rest of your life. For maximum effect, the best vantage point is located about a 30-minute walk beyond Maclear’s Beacon, on the eastern edge of the Table. The setting combined with the views, the peace and quiet and the rising sun combines to create a truly sublime experience. But there is a price to pay: an early rise and a 2-hour uphill slog in the half-dark. Winter is the best time, when the sun rises late – around 7.30 – so starting time would be 5.00.

Yet another reason for hiking Table Mountain.
