Kloof Corner follows a prominent ridge that forms the right skyline of Table Mountain. When viewed from the north—the iconic and best-known view of the mountain. One of the most conspicuous features on the mountain. This ridge forms the great northwestern corner where the north and west sides meet. As far as Table Mountain hiking goes, Kloof Corner is one of the more challenging routes.

Kloof Corner A Route Like No Other

This route does not lead directly to the summit. It terminates about 150 meters below the top at the foot of sheer cliffs. From there, hikers latch onto the India Venster route to gain the summit, via a lengthy traverse to the back of the Table. A unique feature of the route is that it offers simultaneous, sweeping views towards the city (north) and the Atlantic coast (Camps Bay / west) at several points along the way.

Technical Demands and Safety

Kloof Corner is a physically demanding hike that requires specific skills. A cautious approach is important. It is not an obvious route. Indeed, we highly recommend making use of a Table Mountain guide to ensure your safety.

Chains and Scrambling: The route contains three chains to assist hikers up tricky rock bands. The scrambling is rated as C-grade and is on clean, sound rock.
Head for Heights: You need a good head for heights and some experience with scrambling to enjoy this route, as there are exposed sections. A rope is recommended to provide safety on these parts.
Variations: For those seeking more adventure, a variation known as Kloof Corner Pinnacle strictly adheres to the crest of the ridge. The middle chain also offers an exciting, more exposed variation that is less strenuous on the arms.
Escape Route: An escape route onto the India Venster route can be found just under halfway up, providing a way out if the challenge proves to be too great.
